WEATHER SURVEILLANCE RADAR NETWORK

Continuing along the path of modernization and with the encouragement from the Government, four Weather Surveillance Radars have been installed at Islamabad, DI Khan, Rahim Yar Khan and Karachi. These radars have the capability to monitor the weather systems and their characteristics upto a radius of 400 kms.

A precipitation measuring radar has also been installed   at Lahore.  This radar detects the position of clouds and precipitation within the radius of 400 Kilometers. This radar also covers 17 catchment areas of rivers.

nLahore radar provides the good rain coverage & the radar data is being used in the rainfall-runoff model to obtain computerized inflow information for water reservoirs.

During disturb Weather, Radar network is operated to monitor weather development on real time basis over the country.
